Event News | 10 Years of Friends: Back to School at the 10th Anniversary of WashU-Fudan EMBA Class 6
On May 5, in the Starr Building Classroom 403 at Fudan School of Management, the Class 6 (2007 intake) WashU-Fudan EMBA Program alumni returned for a reunion. It is the 10th year since the class opening. Classroom 403 is the place where the students - now alumni - had their classes 10 years ago. At a familiar location and with familiar faces, the alumni warmly hugged and shook hands with each other, talking about campus life 10 years ago before switching to the years since then: their current career and life. The school prepared a dark green uniform for the alumni, with "C6" printed on the back of the uniforms in white, symbolizing "Olin Class 6". The alumni laughed and chatted, while donning their class uniforms one after another.
At 10 a.m., the homecoming ceremony officially began. Associate Dean, Professor Zhiwen YIN, sent a warm welcome to the alumni and introduced his deep connection with the WashU-Fudan EMBA program. As the first representative of Fudan School of Management to participate in the program operation, he said he really felt and connected closely with the program. Then he explained how the Olin program, in recent years, optimized on its management structures.
Dean YIN shared with the alumni the status of the construction and hardware facilities of the new campus of the Fudan School of Management, as he envisions, "There is a 99.9% chance that the alumni will be welcomed at the new campus," when it will be the 15th anniversary of the Class 6.
Afterwards, Mr. Paul SHAO, Managing Director of the WashU-Fudan EMBA program, provided an introduction and overview on the adjustment of Program's curriculum. As of this year, the current students will be able to study in the United States starting this October. At the end, he revealed the current tuition fees of the program to the alumni with a laugh: "You have earned it with a bargain." As his voice faded away, the alumni turned into a sea of joy with their laughter.
With a title of "The Logic Behind Business Model Innovation," Professor Anyu WANG gave a delightful and in-depth lecture. The key to business success, he lectured, is not only about product and skills, but also building a "solid business logic" based on "value innovation" as a starting point for business transformation and upgrade. Taking four iconic companies as examples from different industries – Disney, Alibababa, zbj.com (Zhu Ba Jie) and Jiangxiaobai – Professor WANG expounded the path to realize business model innovation in different environments. At the lecture, he interacted frequently with the alumni, accompanied by applauses and laughter from everyone in the room.
After the lecture, Mr. Shaobin DUAN, Director of the Alumni Center, joined the ceremony. He introduced what kind of support the alumni can get from college activities, welcoming the alumni to come back often. With the same dark green uniforms and consistent poses, the students’ bright smiles were photographed as they revisited their class memories from the “old” days.
After the reunion lunch, the group took a bus and arrived at the Suzhou Hotel. The alumni shared their life and career experiences over the decade after their graduation: Martyn Ngo shared on "E-currency Market and Application," Sean Shan talked about "Innovative Investment Opportunities in Pharmaceuticals," Ben Lan spoke about "Career in the Middle-age," and the sharing ended with Judith Sun on "Life Forms."
The next morning, for class development activities, the alumni visited the Suzhou scenic attractions, walked by the iconic Jinji Lake, and visited the graceful Suzhou Museum — the entire trip was filled with meaningful chats and good laughs.
At this significant point in time after ten years, the old friends met up again, reunited in Suzhou, leaving another unforgettable memory. The ten years of friendship has become richer and mellower with time, so this reunion also appeared to be particularly meaningful to them.
As the event came to an end, the alumni again expressed their joy in attending, along with their gratitude for the growth and harvest that were brought to them by the school. Now, the school also looks forward to that future path of life, where everyone can harvest more happiness and success, and reunite again with a youthful heart after all they will face in the future!
